Taking advantage of missionary study.

After lissanes training on conversion, Marissa and I decided to really focus on helping the missionaries have the best experiences possible outside of class. We identified their personal study on Thursday and Friday (hours and hours worth) as a huge oppurtunity for the missionaries to grow. We discussed with them the importance for their studies and then helped them set fails and make plans for their study time.

On Friday I followed up.on their studies and I was amazed. They had studied.diligently and effectively over the past two days and they were on fire. We got into the doctrine of Christ fundamental and they just got it. The spirit was super strong and I know that its because if their effort and action.

Since then we've tried to help them prepare for other out if class experiences like the temple, preparation day, and the Sabbath. They do such an incredible job in inviting spiritual experiences as we merely help them prepare.

  1. I totally saw that with your missionaries too. They were solid and understood how precious their time was here at the MTC. I could tell that you also trusted that they would step up... and they did.

  2. Sean I did something similar in planning out their Thursday morning personal study and I have had great results. I am now trying to understand how to prepare them for the people and your purpose workshop as a part of that study. I would love to know what you invited them to do!
My study was to have them read pages 3-4, 7-8 in the missionary handbook. Then invited them to complete the personal study activity about their last days in the mission field and also the name tag activity. To complete this activity, I had them read Power and Authority of your calling, and focusing on the question "what is expected of me?" as they read the 4th paragraph.
This worked pretty well, but needs some improving. I think next time I will also invite them to consider their purpose with the questions, "what is the role of a missionary?" "what is the role of an "other"' and "how do we "come unto Christ"?
